How Does EZ RF™ Work?
Designed from the ground up, and based on broad experience in optimizing and mobilizing Oracle through barcode/RFID data collection, EZ RF™ is the only truly modern solution in our market space. All of our competitors are working with software platforms that are decades old -- and it shows. From our user-friendly windows-style GUI to our industry-leading offline functionality, from self-contained label printing to our side-by-side barcode/RFID philosophy, EZ RF™ is simply in a class by itself.
Architecture
EZ RF™ contains three basic components: EZ RF™ Client; EZ RF™ MDM Server; EZ RF™ MDM Console. Client software runs on barcode/RFID devices (handheld, fork-truck-mounted, stationary, portal, etc.) spread throughout the production/warehouse space; the Client presents a touch-screen-enabled, windows-style GUI that includes customer-specific workflows to guide users through Oracle transactions in the simplest possible fashion. MDM Server and Console reside on a centralized server, and manage the interface between Clients and Oracle. The Server actively processes data exchange, maintaining multi-channeled client communication and secure database sessions. The MDM Console provides administrative oversight, allowing authorized users to start/stop the Server, manage database connections and Client groups, and even drill down into real-time transactions to see User, Time, Warehouse and other transaction-specific data. EZ RF™ leverages Oracle's exposed APIs and Interface Tables to ensure that all processing is performed exactly as it would be in Oracle; this also enables us to track activity for audits or accountability through Oracle Security.
Barcodes
Adding EZ RF™'s barcode platform to your organization relieves many of the daily stresses of operation: reliable, electronic data entry replaces error-prone paper accounting methods; point-of-transaction processing means you have instantaneous Oracle visibility (both in the office and on the shop floor), instead of waiting hours or days for paperwork to percolate through the system; immediate Oracle validation corrects mistakes directly instead of allowing them to snowball; electronic audit trails and e-signatures provide accountability and facilitate regulatory compliance. We design barcode labels for our clients, as well as utilizing pre-existing internal formats (EZ RF™ can recognize and generate all of the standard barcode symbologies) and leveraging supplier labels. In addition to the barcode basics, which have been around for years, EZ RF™ utilizes multi-function barcodes for efficiency and data field identifiers for out-of-order scanning.
RFID
With the advent of increasingly reliable and accessible RFID technology, we added an RFID module to EZ RF™. RFID offers a new way to store and read data, but the underlying business applications are the same, and the EZ RF™ platform communicates with RFID readers to capture data and perform the same direct Oracle ERP transactions that we originally enabled for barcodes. We have partnered with BEA -- a leader in the push for international RFID standards and the products that will leverage them -- and licensed their RFID Edge Server for management of RFID devices and data. A java-based interface allows our EZ RF™ platform to request, filter and process RFID events through our pre-existing framework, for automatic incorporation of RFID data into direct Oracle transactions.
Label Generation
Unlike our competitors, who rely on your acquisition and integration of third-party print server software, we provide direct printing from within EZ RF™. We communicate directly with network printers to generate the necessary barcode and RFID labels, choosing the correct printer based on desired business intelligence (e.g. always use a particular printer for a particular transaction, or choose printer by proximity within the building). This saves the expense and hassle of maintaining a separate print server, and it means that local printing can continue without communication to Oracle or even the EZ RF™ MDM Server.
Offline
Because constant connectivity isn't always possible in the real world, we developed the industry's only fully functional Offline solution. Users entering an offline environment (e.g. yards, freezers or facilities beyond the wireless LAN) continue to capture transactional data; once communication is re-established offline transactions are processed in Oracle. We have minimized the transactional data so that data storage on EZ RF™ client devices is virtually limitless; all stored transactions are time-stamped to ensure complete data synchronicity. In addition to rigorous ordering and full Oracle validation for all offline transactions, EZ RF™ provides user feedback (just as in real-time mode) that helps operators correct failed transactions for re-processing.
